Partner's pension

Who is considered your partner?

If you are married, have a registered partnership, or live together in a shared household without being married, you may qualify as a partner under the Pension Regulations. The conditions are set out in Appendix A of the Pension Regulations.

What is arranged for your partner?

When you join the pension plan, a partner's pension is arranged automatically.

This means that if you die, your partner may be entitled to a partner's pension. Your partner will receive this pension for the rest of their life.

Partner's pension while you work for HEINEKEN

As long as you work for HEINEKEN, your partner is entitled to a partner's pension if you die.

Initially, the annual partner's pension is equal to 35% of your pensionable annual salary in the month before your death.

Once the partner's pension starts, the amount becomes variable. This means that it may increase or decrease depending on the pension fund's financial results in a given year. For more information, see annual pension adjustments.

Partner's pension after you leave HEINEKEN

If you become unemployed, partner's pension cover will continue for at least three months after your employment ends, unless you start a new job sooner.

If you receive unemployment benefits or sickness benefits, partner's pension cover will continue for as long as you remain entitled to those benefits.

Please note: partner's pension cover ends three months after your employment ends or after your unemployment or sickness benefits stop.

After this period, your partner will no longer be covered unless you choose to continue the partner's pension cover voluntarily.

The cost of this cover is paid from your personal pension capital. As a result, less pension capital will be available for your own old-age pension.

If you start working for a new employer, make sure you check what partner's pension arrangements are included in their pension plan.

Partner's pension during illness or disability

If you die while you are ill or more than 35% disabled, partner's pension cover will continue in full or in part.

The amount of the partner's pension depends on:

  • your pensionable salary before you became ill; and

  • the degree of your disability.

Partner's pension after your old-age pension starts

When you retire, you and your partner can decide how much partner's pension will be paid after your death.

If you have a partner on your pension commencement date, a partner's pension equal to 70% of your old-age pension is included by default.

You can choose a lower partner's pension or no partner's pension at all. Your partner must agree to this choice.

Please note: the partner's pension after your old-age pension starts may be significantly lower than the partner's pension cover you had before your pension started.

This is because the partner's pension after your pension commencement date depends on:

  • the amount of pension capital you have; and

  • the period during which you worked for HEINEKEN and contributions were paid into your pension plan.

You can check your personal situation in My Pension.

Additional partner's pension (optional) in the event of death before or after your pension commencement date

If you die while working for HEINEKEN or after you retire, and your partner has not yet reached State Pension (AOW) age, your partner may receive a temporary partner's pension in addition to the regular partner's pension.

This temporary partner's pension provides additional income until your partner reaches State Pension (AOW) age.

Your partner will receive the additional partner's pension until the date they reach AOW age.

As of January 1, 2026, the annual amount of this additional partner's pension is equal to the annual ANW survivor benefit and amounts to €21,298.80 gross per year.
