Divorce or termination of the civil partnership
If you separate from your partner, this can affect your pension.
Dutch law contains rules about how pension is divided after a divorce or the end of a registered partnership. What applies to you depends on your situation and any agreements you make with your partner or former partner.
Please note: If you were living together without being married or without a registered partnership, there is no legal right to divide pension.

If you are separating and making agreements about your pension, we recommend that you contact us before the divorce or separation is finalised.
Separation can have a major impact on your pension and other financial matters. We recommend seeking advice from a divorce lawyer, mediator or financial adviser.
What do you need to do?
Do you want to follow the legal pension division rules?
Please confirm this by sending us the Notification Form for Division of Old-Age Pension.
If we do not hear from you, we will automatically receive notice from the municipality when your marriage or registered partnership has ended. We will then inform you and your former partner about the division of the pension built up during your marriage or registered partnership.
Do you want a different pension division?
If you and your former partner agree on a different division, you must inform us within two years after the divorce or separation using the Notification Form for Division of Old-Age Pension.
If you inform us more than two years after the divorce or separation, you and your former partner will have to arrange the division yourselves.
Do you live abroad?
If you live abroad, you must remove your former partner from My Pension yourself.
You must also send us a copy of the document confirming that your relationship has ended. We will then process the separation in line with the rules above.
