Types of investments

We invest the pension contributions paid into the pension plan with the aim of growing pension capital and helping to keep pensions affordable in the future. We also invest as responsibly as possible. This means we want our investments to contribute to a world worth living in.

Types of investments

Investments are made to protect the expected pension benefit and to help grow pension capital. However, investing also involves risk. This means that the pension capital you have can increase or decrease over time. A decrease in pension capital does not automatically mean that your expected pension benefit will be lower.

Pension capital is invested across different asset classes. In doing so, we take account of different age groups and gradually reduce investment risk as participants get older. This is known as lifecycle investing.

  1. Investments aimed at protecting pension benefits
These investments generally move in line with interest rates and have a relatively low level of risk and a lower expected return. Examples include government bonds, mortgages and corporate bonds.

The return on these investments is intended to help prevent the pensions we pay from decreasing. As you get older, a larger share of your pension capital is allocated to these types of investments.

Our investment policy explains exactly how much is invested collectively in these asset classes.

  2. Investments aimed at growing pension capital
These investments involve a higher level of risk and are the main driver of pension increases over the long term. However, the results of these investments can also be negative.

Examples of higher-risk investments include equities, real estate, private credit and hedge funds.

As you get older, a smaller share of your pension capital is allocated to these types of investments.

Our investment policy explains exactly how much is invested collectively in these asset classes.
